About

Across the United States, a movement has grown to sell off our public lands. Despite strong public opinion, legislators and lobbyists are working with unprecedented eagerness to transfer public lands to private interests. Without engagement and action, our commons may disappear.

In the summer of 2017, three friends set off on a week-long journey from Bozeman to Red Lodge, Montana. This journey spanned 250-miles across the largest intact ecosystem in the lower forty-eight. Traversing this landscape helped draw attention to the importance of the common space surrounding Yellowstone National Park.

The goal of this run was twofold: to empower the community to act in defense of our public lands and inspire adventure across the places we call home.

Join us in our search for common ground.

Anthony Pavkovich
Hailing from the backwoods of northern Wisconsin, Anthony has been living and exploring the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for nearly a decade. Coming from a background in mountaineering, Anthony has emerged as a competitive ultrarunner - winning both the Beaverhead 55k and HURL Elkhorn 50 mile in 2016. When he is not exploring public land, he is fighting for their protection and sits on the board of the Madison-Gallatin Chapter for the Montana Wilderness Association.
David Laufenberg
With a strong background in avian research and conservation ecology, David's work has taken him from his home state of Wisconsin to the far reaches of Ecuador, Colombia, California, Wyoming and Montana, including two years working as an instructor for Yellowstone Forever. He is currently a graduate student studying whitebark pine in Dr. Andrew Hansen's lab in the Department of Ecology at Montana State University. His ongoing research considers the effects of climate change in subalpine and alpine habitat in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
Zach Altman
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Geology in 2015, Zach headed to Montana to pursue life as a writer and mountain athlete in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, while working to protect these wild spaces for future generations. When he is not running or skiing in the mountains, he is working the floor and directing races at the Bozeman Running Company. Zach recently joined the Gallatin-Park Chapter Board of Montana Conservation Voters.
